Ecotourism at AMCO

By joining us on a tour, you directly contribute to the conservation of endangered species and the livelihood of local communities

AMCO's ecotourism approach

At AMCO, we work to protect aquatic megafauna and their natural habitats in Central Africa. One of our key strategies is to reduce the economic vulnerability of local fishing communities through sustainable alternatives.

Our work is rooted in Lake Ossa, located in the Dizangue Council of the Sanaga Maritime Division. For years, we've been active in the region, raising awareness among local communities about the importance of protecting the African manatee, a now-threatened species that inhabits Lake Ossa and the Sanaga River basin.

Unfortunately, Lake Ossa faces many environmental threats:

  • Deforestation for housing and agriculture
  • Water pollution from agricultural chemicals
  • Unsustainable fishing practices

To address these challenges, we work hand in hand with the local population—those most connected to the lake. We believe ecotourism is a powerful way to both protect biodiversity and offer new income opportunities for local communities.

By joining AMCO's eco-tours, you directly support conservation efforts and help preserve the ecosystem for future generations.
